More than just clever, it’s also stylish, with a slim profile, metal construction, and fun pops of colour to give its classical design some flair. Even hefty PDF documents clocking in at 150MB opened without slowdown in the native Boox Reader app. Yet another strength of the Onyx platform is that you can read in whatever app you prefer, including the Kindle app.

Some LEDs around the edge of the display create the Moon Light 2 backlight for using the Note Air in dim light and in darkness. It’s comfortable in the hand, and its attractive green finish gives this device more personality over some other e-readers I’ve tried.Dial up the backlight, and things get a bit more traditionally screen-like, albeit still monochrome. Some mention that the app that comes with it is easy to use and can export to Onenote and that the magnet design allows for easy attachment of the stylus. I did download YouTube, although the Note Air 2 Plus’s refresh rate wasn’t good enough to run fast-paced video content, which made me question why it was supported at all.

As for clarity, with a resolution of 1404 x 1872, the Note Air 2 Plus is crisp, sporting 227 pixels in every inch of screen (PPI), not much less than the iPad Pro (265PPI), and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra (240PPI). Personally, my preference is for a yellow-toned display, but the colder tones proved handy for reading outdoors, or in other brightly lit areas. For example, the current firmware has the following functions such as note taking and drawing, access to the Internet, and others. It has a satisfying scratchy feel, akin to a pencil on grainy paper that has been lost in favour of a smoother and ‘slippier’ (for want of a better word) screen used by the more recent Tab range.

That said, writing in third-party apps like Wacom Bamboo Paper results in serious lag, so if you can’t abide latency, the pre-installed notetaking tool is the way to go. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. After all, the practical highlights Google introduces in its latest OS versions like Material U, wouldn’t be apparent through Boox’s skin.

For starters, there’s its paper-like screen, which has just enough friction for it to really feel like paper when used with the included Wacom stylus. Solid and sleek, they’re the most striking qualities the Note Air 2 Plus hit home when I first got my mitts on it. The Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus is a tablet and e-reader in one, arriving with a Boox Pine Green stylus with which you can doodle and take notes as you read. It takes a little getting used to and a small amount of googling to find the particular feature you want but I have found all that I need. In Evernote, another officially supported app, I didn't see those pauses, but sometimes the pen would drop strokes.

Overall, the Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus is a great alternative to the Kindle e-readers out there and a device that you should certainly consider if you’re interested in doodling and taking notes on your reader. I bought this about a month ago to use alongside another well known e-ink device, and was pleasantly surprised - so much so that its now a regular part of my work/home life. In fact, with access to apps like Google Docs and Microsoft Word, I’d go so far as to say Onyx’s tablet series is the best option for anyone on the hunt for typing on an e-ink display. The battery charged up in a little under a couple of hours, so don’t expect particularly nippy charging, but given how long this thing lasts, that wasn’t an issue for me. The Note Air 2 Plus is so robust and tough and feels like it will take a beating when being transported.

The Note Air 2 has a new film over the screen that gives it a more paper-like feel than the original model. I libri si leggono perfettamente grazie alla app preinstallata, ma si possono installare varie app anche di fornitori di eBook direttamente da Google Play. And while you can download audiobooks and podcasts to the Note Air 2 Plus, it makes little sense to use it for audio files instead of your phone. That’s a huge advantage since the Apple Pencil seems unable to retain charge for more than a few days. You can watch videos on the Note Air 2 Plus but I wouldn’t recommend it at all as the quality won’t be the best. There’s no slot for earphones, and although you can connect them up via USB-C, the Note Air 2 enlists Bluetooth 5. I enjoyed reading books on the Note Air 2 Plus, with the words looking crisp and clear against the background. Amongst them there are such languages as Russian, English, German, French, Spanish, Arabic, Swedish, Dutch, Finnish, Polish, Chinese, Japanese and many others.
