They get personally involved with a few of them, and of course we get the backstory of the small staff as well. It could have felt a bit contrived, as so many books are listed and recommended, but somehow it works. At the very time when people most need books to widen their horizons, or escape from their fears, or enhance their lives, the doors are closed.

I rarely get emotional reading but this book is so beautifully poignant and touching, speaking if a time when the world stopped, how we all feared how it would end and did the best we could for ourselves and those we love, a gentle hug of a story. Some people might find this difficult to read about particularly if they were separated from loved ones for a period of time or if they lost someone, whether to Covid or another illness, at this time. However, she introduced wayyy to many secondary characters that were not integral to the main plot and it just got distracting. This is a time when, pre-vaccine, people who caught Covid were extremely ill, when NHS staff were exhausted, when other key workers such as supermarket workers and public transport staff daily put themselves at risk and when in general, most people were genuinely terrified. The book recommendations throughout the story have a wide range of offerings, with a sentence or two to describe why it was added as a possibility of interest and intrigue to answer an individual’s request.

In het boek lees je over de boekverkopers, maar leer je ook alle klanten met hun specifieke boekverzoeken kennen. I liked the idea that when you read the first sentence of any book, you are completing the author’s work. My only negative is that it is perhaps a bit repetitive with the letters and the book lists as my enjoyment lies in the characters that you follow through. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It is not one I could recommend to everyone without explaining the triggers of which there are a lot.

I come from Whitby and know York very well and there were countless mistakes regarding both places which really annoyed me and prevented me believing that’s where they were supposed to be. There was some uplifting takeaway from the book and I did enjoy all the prescriptions of books for each character I even wrote some down that I would like to try.By participating in the Kindle App Challenge this first Qtr, I completed 3 books for the month of January. A cosy story about the joy of stories, not only the books that are recommended for people who ask but the lives of the different people who receive them. Great books recommended and the list at the end is great which means more to add to my tbr pile and some I already have.

I also really enjoyed the use of letters within the narrative, finding that they pulled me into the individual stories and I was completely invested in even the most minor of characters. Stephanie lives near the sea in the north-east of England, with her husband Alan and Harris the greyhound.Fell in love with the characters and their stories that happened in a time that I turned to books as well. The novel encourages us to remember that sometimes, to move forward, there are goodbyes, and many are goodbyes that we never want to say. Overall this is an intelligent, refreshing and heart warming book that I adored, and would recommend to everyone who reads - so that's all of you! Loved also that so many great books are mentioned and recommended, especially for specific needs, recovering from loss, and adding to wonderful events and hopes for the future.
