OUR NEW BLOOD ORANGE GIN FROM THE KING WILLIAM TEAM - Our new Blood Orange gin raises a glass to King William, the regal father of gin distillation in the U. Whilst it marked a year of exciting ginnovation (and the launch of our book, SIP), we also raised glasses to our vow never to change the Sipsmith London Dry Gin recipe, no matter how large the size of our demand.

In the first, 'malt distillers' distilled malted barley and other cereals to produce what are known as 'low wines'. A complaint made by a member of the public against the wine brand for “causing serious offence” has been upheld by the Portman Group’s Independent Complaint Panel (ICP). In 1638 Theodore De Mayerne, the man latter dubbed 'The Father of English Distilling', a noted physician and alchemist joined Thomas Cademan, physician to the Queen, to found The Worshipful Company of Distillers, one of the City of London livery companies to this day. Few records survive from this period and the first written proof that Bols distilled juniper is a 1664 record of Bols purchasing juniper berries. This Act was intended to encourage English distillers to fill the demand left by French Brandy's sudden disappearance, and by charging a low excise duty on the spirits produced help fund the war.We launched King William Gin after finding out he liberalised the manufacture of Gin in the UK with his first act of Parliament in 1690. Their royal connections secured a Royal Charter issued by Charles I giving the Company exclusive rights to distil grain within the City's of London and Westminster, and 21 miles around them. In a further attempt to reduce consumption, the government introduced the Gin Act 1751 which brought in taxes for retailers, made licenses harder to obtain and promoted beer and tea as alternative drinks. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

The gin producers have been running competitions for fans of their products to forward them unusual pictures of their bottles. The complaint was upheld, and producers Belcondie will work with the Portman Group’s Advisory Service to change potentially offensive elements on the label.

It found it “unusual” to see the number presented to two decimal places, and considered it “intentional” to directly associate the number with a year. Drink creator Belcondie Ltd – which has also released a King William Gin and owns trademarks for for King William Rum and King William Whisky – insists the drink is for everyone and not targeted at any particular football supporters such as Rangers fans. The king's opponents forced his eventual flight to France in 1688 and leading English political figures (the Immortal Seven) took the unprecedented step of inviting the Dutch Protestant William of Orange, who was married to James' daughter Mary, to invade and establish a Protestant alliance between England and the Netherlands against Louis XIV's Catholic France.

Although this is the first recorded use of the word it is of course likely to have been in colloquial use sometime earlier. Hogarth’s famous etching of Gin Lane was one of a pair funded by the brewing industry to illustrate that beer consumption was far healthier for society (not to mention individuals) than drinking gin. Incidentally, the Dutch term 'jenever' or 'jenever' was borrowed from Old French 'genevre' (modern French genièvre) meaning 'juniper tree', which in turn comes from the Latin word for the tree 'juniperus'. The task of deciding new quantities was given to Herman Jansen in Schiedam, Netherlands, a distillery that dates back to 1777. If you really want to bring the flavour of orange through then squeeze or twist the peel as you add it to your drink to release some of the natural essential oils in the skin.Like Dutch jenever, English gin went through two stages of production (and in most cased still does). Upon taking the throne and prior to the infamous Battle of The Boyne, King William, a fan of the Dutch spirit introduced a number of laws to encourage gin production including an import tax which resulted in the spirit being cheaper than a pint of beer.
