Greaty improved tranfers of the Cremer Maigret series, although some of the ratios have now been changed to fit the 16:9 ratio.

To crack his cases he peels back the veneer of seemingly idyllic villages and neighborhoods, exposing the criminals who lurk in all levels of society. I’ve read all of the Maigret books and was disappointed that an author with such a prolific pipe collection did not reference a pipe brand or tobacco used by the character. Like the Simenon novels, the episodes are thick with atmosphere and explore the seedy realities of life. I am a huge fan of the MhZ International Mystery series where you can catch this show every few weeks.

The direction, now by Nicholas Renton, Stuart Burge, and John Strickland greatly improves turning each episode into a superbly realised mini-movie, true to the spirit and the complexities of Simenon's wonderful novels.

Having read most of the short and long Maigret stories and seen a number of Bruno Cremer's version (French with subtitles), I had looked forward to this version if only because it did not require me to read subtitles. Have now watched the first 12 'cases' and have been gobsmacked at the timelessness of the production. The pragmatic, reserved and refined Maigret investigates murders in his singular unhurried manner and inevitably discovers the truth. Personalized advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of information under California and other state privacy laws, and you may have a right to opt out. There are enough twists and turns in the plot lines that it is often difficult to know who the real culprit is until the end of the show. I lok forward to seeing him mount oleaginous malefactors on the skewer of evidence and send them to the guillotine for their misdeeds. The storylines feature, amongst others, a burglar who discovers a murder while robbing a house, an exotic dancer who is murdered after tipping off police and the mysterious disappearance of a diamond merchant. International film star Bruno Cremer ( The Octopus, Sorcerer) is unsurpassed as Georges Simenon's beloved Parisian Inspector in this long-running French series based on the bestselling novels.
